Carson Smith Special Needs Scholarship

Our private school in Taylorsville Utah is approved to receive the Carson Smith Special Needs Scholarship through the state office of education. Tuition could be free if your child or someone you know qualifies for special education services or has an (IEP) Individual Education Plan.

What Is the Carson Smith Scholarship?

The Carson Smith Special Needs Scholarship is a state-funded program that provides private school scholarships to Pre-K through 12th grade students with disabilities. The Scholarship was signed into law on March 10, 2005 by Governor Jon Huntsman and is administered by the Utah State Office of Education.

How To Qualify for Carson Smith

  1. Be a Utah resident.
  2. Be of Pre-K through 12th grade school age student (3-21).
  3. Apply and be conditionally accepted by an eligible private school.
  4. Be eligible for an IEP (Individual Education Plan) from the local school district. A current IEP is not required.

IEP Eligibility

To be eligible for an IEP, a Preschool -12th grade student must have a disability covered by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act:

  1. Speech or language disabiliy
  2. Hearing disability
  3. Visual disability
  4. Orthopedic disability
  5. Developmental delay
  6. Specific learning disability
  7. Emotional disturbance
  8. Autism
  9. Intellectual disability
  10. Traumatic brain injury
  11. Other health impairment
